Boys Basketball

Gonzaga Prep’s never-quit defense held the preseason favored Titans to a season low 48 points. After playing tied after one quarter of play the Bullpups out scored the Titans the next three quarters. The Bullpups finished the evening with a 54-48 win over the Titans in an entertaining Greater Spokane League game. Ryan Gregory from Prep had a team-high 13 points and seven rebounds.

 

The Bullpups (5-3 overall, 5-1) knocked the Titans (6-2, 4-2) out of a share of first place as G-Prep now stands alone at the top of the league.

The Bullpups won their first game of the season after losing their first two non league games. The defending State 4A champion Gonzaga Prep started slow in the firs half but bounced back strong in the second half. Ryan Gregory led the Bullpups with 19 points. Reed Hopkins scored 13 of his 16 in the third quarter when G-Prep outscored the visiting Saxons 21-12. Hopkins connected on four three pointers. TJ Bracey added 10.

The state title is the first for Gonzaga Prep (23-3) and it came in the school’s first appearance in the finals. Using only six players for the second game in a row, the sixth-ranked Bullpups toppled No. 3 Curtis 61-41 in the finals of the Class 4A boys basketball state tournament Saturday night at the Tacoma Dome.

Gonzaga Prep guard Chris Sarbaugh, a Gonzaga University recruit, finished with 17 points, 10 rebounds and six assists and was voted the tournament MVP. Parker Kelly scored a team-high 24 points, making 10 of 16 field goals, and Stephen Ferraro had 12 points and seven rebounds.

The Bullpups took control of the game early and advanced to a 41-25 lead by halftime. The Pups outscored the Central Valley Bears in every quarter.

Senior Parker Kelly had another individual big night, matching a season-high 29 points on 9-of-15 shooting, 4 of 8 from 3-point range. He also had eight rebounds. Senior Chris Sarbaugh added 17 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Also, scoring in double figures for the Bulllpups was Shane Schmidlkofer with 10 points.

NC just couldn't stop the red hot sharp shooter Parker Kelly, who had a season-high 29 points for G-Prep (16-3, 15-2). He made 5 of 7 3-pointers in the first half as the Bullpups opened a 44-29 lead. The Bullpups finished the night by beating the Indians 71-53.

For the second consecutive game the GSL second-place Bullpups (14-3, 13-2) got off to a another fast start but needed to hang on at the finish at LC. The Tigers (5-12, 5-10) trailed 23-10 after a quarter and by 15 points at half. They outscored G-Prep 17-9 in the final quarter. Parker Kelly and Chris Sarbaugh were the top scores for the Bullpups.

Gonzaga (13-3, 12-2) moved into sole possession of second after the Pups sank the Pirates at the Roger's ZOO, hosted by team Rogers. The Rogers' theme for the event was called "Pirates Just Zoo It" and the money raised from the event went toward "Coaches vs Cancer". Rogers' students were hospitable and truly supportive toward both teams on Spirit Night.

 

All the Bullpups came out hot in the first quarter making shots from all over the floor. The Pups scored the game’s first 11 points and then sailed past the sinking Pirates. Parker Kelly led the scoring parade for G-Prep with 23 points, Stephen Ferraro had 13 and Shane Schmidlkofer added 10.

Boys Basketball

As the Bullpups (11-3, 10-2) works its way through the second half of the regular season they still find themselves two games behind the league leader Ferris Saxons.

The Bullpups used powerful outside shooting to send the host team Mead to another defeat. The Pups connected on seven 3-pointers. After a fast start in the first quarter the Pups used their sharp shooting skills in the second half to outscore the Panthers. The Bullpups benefited from some big shots by Parker Kelly and Shane Schmidlkofer at the end of the third quarter. Kelly finished with 22. Another top scorer for the Pups was TJ Bracey with 15 points.

Gonzaga Prep 64, Central Valley 55: The visiting Bullpups (10-3, 9-2) outscored the host team CV Bears every quarter but they needed to make their free throws late in the fourth quarter to hold off the Bears (7-6, 6-5). Senior guard Chris Sarbaugh led all scorers with 19 points and Shane Schmidlkofer finished the night with 16 points for the Bullpups.

 

Boy Pups Tame Wildcats

Parker Kelly led the Pups with his three 3-pointers in the first half and the rest of Pups sprinted past the Wildcats. The Bullpups jumped on the Wildcats early, the Pups built up a 19 points lead just after one quarter of play.

The Bullpups started the second half with a 45-15 lead. Kelly scored a game-high 23 points and Ryan Gregory came off the bench for 20 as he made 8 of 12 shots from the field. TJ Bracey contributed 10 points.

Ferris (5-1, 5-0) came out and took a 16-point first-half lead and then hung on to beat Gonzaga Prep (6-2, 5-1) 65-56, giving them first place in the Greater Spokane League.

Gonzaga Prep's loss moves them into a tie for second place with University. Leading the scoring for Gonzaga was Chris Sarbaugh with 14 points and Stephen Ferraro finished the night with 13.
