Free throw and long-range shooting exhibition ultimately went Central Valley's way Friday night in Greater Spokane League girls basketball.

The host Bears (1-1) outscored Gonzaga Prep (1-1) 22-9 in the third quarter and won 70-56.

There were a combined 58 fouls whistled – 20 on the Bullpups in the first half – and together the teams converted 56 of 78 free throws (72 percent). CV was 30 of 41, Gonzaga 26 of 37.

But the Bears also made six 3-pointers, three by Katie Estey, to Gonzaga's two, and their 12-point advantage from beyond the arc was nearly the margin of victory.

Estey, a freshman, scored 15 points and fellow freshman Brooke Gallaway added 12. Gallaway was 8 of 10 from the free-throw line and senior Ashley Hinseth was 8 of 12.

CV led by 10 points after a quarter and built a 56-34 advantage through three quarters. The Bullpups made a belated run in the final period.

G-Prep sophomore Tia Pressley was the catalyst. She scored 26 points, including 12 of 13 from the line.
