Ferris Overpowers Pups In The Second Half

Spokesman Review Game Summary

After receiving the opening kick-off Ferris marched down Prep’s Higgins’s Field and scored up the middle on a 31 yard touchdown run by McKenzie Murphy. Prep responded right back by scoring on a wide open 57 yard finger tip reception TD  by Jimmy Wilson. After the Prep touchdown it appeared the Saxons were a little shaken since the Bullpups dominated most of the second quarter. Good line blocking upfront  by Anthony Luna & Carl Brophy started to open some holes for senior running back Jeremy Condon.

Gonzaga was able to move the ball down to the 1 yard line mid-way through the second quarter, but came up short and end up turning the ball over on downs. Ferris offense stalled and was forced to punt from their own end zone. With less than 5 minutes until half time the Pups got the ball back and were able to move the down to Ferris’ 30 yard line, but penalties push the Pups back to the 40 yard line.  With 3^rd and long Condon broke through off tackle and picked up 15 yards which gave Matt Barker the opportunity to kick a 42 yard field goal and the lead 10-7.

Right before half time Ferris’ QB Minnerly guided the Ferris offense down the field and threw a TD pass to Jared Karstetter with only 10 seconds on the clock to regain the lead at 14-10.

The second half was all Ferris, all the time. The Saxons mixed up the plays nicely and kept the Pups off balance for the entire second half. Murphy rushed for 82 yards and Minnerly completed 14-18 passes.  

The loss for Gonzaga Prep was the first football game defeat for the Bullpups at Higgins Field. The Bullpups started playing their home games at Higgins Field back in the fall of 2005.
