Mead Takes A Bite Out Of Prep's Playoff Hopes

The darkest point of Friday’s night football game for Prep was when Reser the QB for Mead threw a touchdown pass at the goal line with 9 seconds left in the 4th quarter. The touchdown pass tied the game and the following PAT gave the Panthers the lead and the win.

Despite a masterful performance by Prep for three quarters of play and with a 10 point lead the Mead Panthers were able to come back and score 21 points in the 4th quarter to seal the victory. The stunned Gonzaga players, coaches and fans must be wondering if Prep just watched this year’s playoff hopes vanished.

Prep started the game by scoring on their first set of plays. It was Prep’s first game of the year where they actually scored first. G-Prep used a 12-play, 73-yard drive that ended with Jeremy Condon scoring from 9-yards out. Prep quickly got on the score board again after Pat Enders blocked a Mead punt and Travis Long landed on it in the end zone for a touchdown.

In the second half Matt Barker connected on two long field goals and Aaron Page intercepted a pass that put Prep into position to setup another rushing touchdown for Condon.

Matt Barker’s 36 yard field goal with less than 5 minutes advanced Prep’s lead to 27-14 and the victory for the Pups was insight. Mead stormed back with Reser leading the charge with a 4-yard TD pass. Mead got the ball back around mid-field after forcing the Bullpups to punt. Again, Reser used the aerial game to move the ball down field to setup the winning touchdown pass.

One of the strangest plays of the game was when Mead was trailing by 6 points late in the game on their own 30 yard line. The Panthers tried a catch and pitch play that appeared to be fumbled and recovered by the Pups, but the official ruling was called a redo and the Panthers were able to keep the ball.

Leading the Gonzaga rushing attack was Jeremy Condon with 19 carries for 87 yards and Bryan Karwacki 84 yards on 18 rushes. Defensively, Aaron Page had another big game for Gonzaga and the offensive interior line did an outstanding job blocking up front to create some holes for Condon & Karwacki to run through.
