Titans Upset Pups, 20-17

 

The undefeated Bullpups (2-1) traveled across town to University HS and found the Titans under the direction of their new coach to be more difficult than the Titans of old. G-Prep scored 14 unanswered points in the 2nd half against the host team U-HI to tie the game and to put the game in overtime. Prep had the ball first in OT and scored first with a 30 yard field goal, but the Titans responded by converting a 4th and short into a first down and then went on to score a TD to beat the 3rd rank team in the state 20 -17.

G-Prep vs U-Hi Game Video Highlights

 

Prep started the game with two 80 yards marching drive but failed to score after two missed field goals. Under the direction of first year head coach Billy Derrick, University took the opportunity of Prep's miscues and non-scoring changes and took a 14 point lead into half time. In the second half Prep dominated statically and responded with 14 points. Leading the second half come back was Bishop Sankey with a 80 yard sprint down the left sideline for a TD. Sankey finished the night with 219 yards rushing. In the fourth quarter QB, Shane Schmidlkofer marched up the middle for a 25 yard score. Schmidlkofer rushed for a total 145 yards on 23 carries. The game was tied with 5 seconds left in regulation when the Bullpups attempted a 30 yard field goal for the win, the kick was no good just missing wide to the right.

 

All of the Pups 481 total offenses yard came from the ground. U-HI finished the night with 184 yards in the air and 71 rushing yards. G-Prep turned over the ball twice on fumbles, but lost this game by missed opportunities and penalties. The loss moves Gonzaga into a tie for second place in the Greater Spokane League.
